Our brave war horse Derek passed away peacefully in his sleep Sunday morning, March 6. He never gave up, but his body said no more. He proudly went out on his own terms.
Derek was a man of few words but those that knew him understood he could say more with his words and wry smile than most anyone. His passion for family, friends, sports and love of God were only equaled by his love of travel, food, and games.
His 19 year journey since his first Leukemia diagnosis was truly remarkable. He inspired so many people and the amount of love and support everyone had for him was amazing.
His faith and will to live will never be forgotten, and we are so proud of him for that.
His suffering is done and he is resting with the Lord now.
We love you Derek and your spirit will live with us forever.
Thank you to everyone who have gone through this journey with us, your support and generosity was unbelievable. We appreciate and love you all.
Derek was preceded in his death by his grandfather’s Dave Valdez and James Stone. Derek is survived by his mom and dad, Janine and Paul Valdez, his sisters Amanda Victorino and Makaila Valdez, and his brother Zach Valdez. His grandmothers Nancy Stone, Letitia Valdez and Becky Huettl and his grandfather Peter Huettl, his aunts and uncles, Dean and Aimee Valdez, Brian and Nicki Stone, Fadi and Gina Abou-Jaoude, Mike and Ramona Valdez.
