Gary Chelar

We are deeply saddened by the passing of Gary Lee Chelar. Gary passed away at home on 17 November 2022 at the age of 74 with his wife, Julie, by his side. Gary was born on February 18, 1948 to Raymond Chelar and Jeannine Lawson in Rock Island, Illinois. He honorably served in the Army.  He was married to Elizabeth Putman from 1970 to 1986. Together they had children, Lesley, Allison and Joseph. He was married to Julie Strasheim on October 28, 1989. Together they had son, Phillip. Gary and Julie celebrated their 33rd anniversary prior to his passing.

Gary was a man of many trades. He was a grocery store and restaurant owner, a professional butcher and a head chef. He was working as a printer technician when he retired.

Gary loved cooking, playing pool and cribbage, camping, and spending time with his family.

He is survived by his loving wife Julie and his children Lesley (Tony) Terronez, Allison Moore, Joseph (Stephanie) Chelar, and Phillip Chelar. He also was the proud grandfather to Hope and Emma Terronez, Keir Henry, Avah, Brielle and Sophia Moore, and Adelyne and Grayson Chelar.

He was reunited in death with his parents, Raymond and Jeannine Chelar, his sister, Karen Kincaid and father-in-law, John Strasheim.

There will be a memorial service for Gary on December 9, 2022 at 1:00 p.m. at Horan & McConaty funeral home 7577 W. 80th Ave. Arvada, CO 80003.
