Joe Dean Denton, 81, of Denver, Colorado, passed away November 12, 2020. He was born May 7, 1939 in Shidler, Oklahoma to Earl and Bertha Kitchel Denton.
Growing up, Joe enjoyed spending time with family. He attended Shidler school where he graduated in 1957. After graduating, Joe attended Northern Oklahoma College where he studied art. He joined the United States Army in 1962 and served in Germany until 1964.
After the military, Joe attended Weatherford University where he met Joann. They were married July 16, 1967. They both shared a love for Colorado where they skied, biked, camped and had many more adventures. Joe and Joann joined The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the 70's. Through the church, they enjoyed serving in various callings.
In 1979, Joe and Joann announced the adoption of their daughter Jennifer. She became their pride and joy.
They lived for a short time in Mt. Pleasant Utah where they both managed a Big A auto parts store. Joe and Joann took a trip to Hawaii as they both had a fond love for the Polynesian culture. This was just prior to losing his wife and best friend in October of 1989.
Joe worked for Ed and Carolyn Galleries where he managed the store and framed pictures. He spent a few years living in Oceanside California where he enjoyed working on family history and spending time in the San Diego Temple. Joe enjoyed painting and sculpting as a hobby. Throughout his life, Joe always shared his optimistic outlook. He gained friendships that became life long. Joe was known for his smile and laugh as well as his willingness to help and serve. He touched the lives of people he met.
Joe is survived by daughter, Jennifer Lynn Witucki and Ryan Robison, of Altus, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Tommy Joe Cordova of Denver, Colorado; and Daisy Fay Harper of Altus, Oklahoma; and many loving extended family members and friends. Joe was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Joann Luikart Denton; and siblings Vester Lee Denton, Boobie Everett Denton and Ruth Arlene Harden.
A public viewing will be held on Monday, November 30, 2020, from 11:00am-12Noon at The Horan & McContay Family Chapel, 11150 E. Dartmouth Ave., Aurora, CO 80014.
Due to recent COVID restrictions, a small private graveside for invited guests, will be held at 1:00pm on Monday, November 30, 2020 at Fort Logan National Cemetery, where military honors will be rendered.
