Judy Urman

Judy Urman, a Holocaust survivor, passed away on September 14, 2017 at Shalom Park. Rabbi Rheins officiated at the September 17th service at Temple Sinai. Judy was born in Magdeburg, Germany on May 15, 1927. Judy escaped from Germany with her parents and spent the war years in Shanghai, China where she met her husband Ernie. They were married on June 1, 1947. After stays in Israel and Austria, Judy and Ernie were able to come to the United States in 1952. Judy and Ernie came to Denver in 1960, raised their family, built a successful insurance agency and lived the American Dream. In October of 2012, Judy was able to realize a lifelong dream of publishing her life story, “From Quiet Hope to Freedom”, in both English and German. She also enjoyed sharing her experiences with area schools and civic groups. Judy and Ernie were soul mates and were married for 66 years prior to Ernie’s death on January 2, 2013. Judy is survived by her children, Ruth Leland (Bob), Frank Urman (Evelinda), grandchildren Ilana, Max and Dani Urman, Tami Leland and Shannon Tuininga. Judy was predeceased by son Danny.
