Kenneth Mauro

July 30, 1939 — November 9, 2022

Littleton

Kenneth F. Mauro passed away on November 9th, 2022, after a long battle with Parkinson’s. Ken dedicated his life to his faith, family, community, and the environment.  He achieved everything in life he set out to do as a husband, father, caretaker, teacher, and mentor to everyone around him.  He always showed up authentically and was known for his strong work ethic.

Born in Blue Island, Illinois on July 30,1939, Ken attended school in Blue Island and Harvey Ill, graduating from The Illinois Institute of Technology in 1961. He served in the Army Corps of Engineers as a Staff Sergeant, stationed at the Waterways Experiment Station in Vicksburg, Mississippi where he met his wife-to-be Dorothy Moses. They married in the fall of 1964, relocated to Colorado, and raised a family together; skiing, golfing, cooking inventive meals and growing bountiful gardens at the foot of the Rocky Mountains. He and Dorothy also found time to cheer for the Heritage Eagles, CSU Rams and were inaugural fans of the Denver Broncos. Ken’s legacy of generosity and community service will endure in his final hometown of Littleton, Colorado.

Ken was an accomplished Professional Civil Engineer and Professional Land Surveyor. He was featured in several prominent publications and was the recipient of several design awards after a distinguished career at the Colorado Department of Transportation and E470 Public Highway Authority.  Outside of work, he dedicated his time to the Boy Scouts, Elks and the St. Michaels Society.

He is survived by his wife Dorothy of 58 years, daughters and their husbands Lisa and Tom Hartert, Karen and Rick Vacca, his two sons and their spouses Steven and Kileigh Mauro, Tony, and Katie Mauro, and his seven grandchildren: Keenan, Sam, Ben, Alex, Sophia, Maggie and Addie. He is also survived by his sister and brother-in- law, Nina and Rudy Banovich, his brother and sister-in-law, Patrick and Mary Ellen Mauro, and brother Jerry Mauro. He is preceded in death by his parents Peter and Caroline Mauro, sister Jennette Tietz, and brother Guy Mauro and touched the lives of countless beloved cousins, nieces, and nephews.

In keeping with the tradition of Ken’s spirit of giving, teach someone a new skill, go skiing, volunteer, plant a garden, bake a pie. Donations can be made to the Mayo Clinic Parkinson's Disease Research via the link below to research the genetic and environmental factors that cause Parkinson's disease and other movement disorders, or the the Laradon School and Calabrese Youth Center supported by the St Michael's Society who are empowering children and adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities to reach their full potential via link below.
