Laurel Lenore Shelley

Laurel Lenore Baumert Shelley of Lakewood, Colorado was born in Englewood, Colorado on January 24, 1952 to Harold and Birdie Baumert. She grew up in Elizabeth, Colorado with her sisters, Cheryl and Candy and her brother Randy. In her junior year of high school the family purchased a cattle farm in Kiowa, Colorado where she finished her senior year and graduated in 1970.

After graduation she worked at a Dude Ranch in Gunnison, Colorado and briefly at an insurance company but found her true calling at Mountain Bell, the telephone company. She worked in the RCMAC division which provided dial tone for home phones. She also was a union representative for many years and survived the buy outs of US West, Qwest and lastly Centurylink, she retired with 32 years of service.

She had her first son, Joshuah Layne in 1973 and soon after met the love of her life, Terry Shelley. They married in November 1975 and Terry officially adopted Joshuah. Their second child Sarah was born in 1976, followed by Erin in 1981.  They became members of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in 1979 and raised all their children in their faith. She was a very active member and cherished her long-time friendships and callings throughout her years in the Lakewood ward.

Laurel was predeceased by her father Harold, her mother Birdie and her husband, Terry. She is survived by her sisters and brother, her children Josh, Sarah and Erin.

We will miss her dearly and know that she is now with her love, Terry but will be watching over us.

A Funeral Service to celebrate Laurel's life will be held at 11:00am on Wednesday, Ocober 26, 2022 at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 6465 West Jewell Ave., Lakewood, CO  80232. A viewing will be held prior to the service from 10:00-10:45am.

Laurel will be buried at Crown Hill Cemetery immediately following the service.
