Loretta Dean Vair was born on February 7, 1945. She died on March 11, 2022, at the age of 77, after a six-year battle with Alzheimer’s disease. She was the eldest child of Dean and Virginia Brown. She was a daughter, sister, niece, wife, mother, grandmother, aunt and friend. For most of her life she called Colorado home. She graduated from Meritt Hutton High School in Thornton in 1962 and attended University of Colorado Boulder. She raised her three children in Evergreen and taught them to appreciate the outdoors and instilled within them a love of skiing, even though she wasn’t an avid skier herself. She had an adventurous spirit and enjoyed traveling and taking her family on trips. She and her husband spent many summer vacations with their children on Lake Powell. These family trips created treasured memories for her sons.
She loved to play bridge and she forged friendships with her “bridge ladies” that spanned decades. She and her mother shared a passion for genealogy. They would travel all over collecting data from different archives. She had a special bond and friendship with her sister, and she adored her two brothers. Her eyes really sparkled around all of her grandchildren. Having had three sons she was certain that she was destined to have only boys in her life. In the end she had almost an equal number of granddaughters as grandsons. She delighted in being able to buy little girl dresses and shoes. She attended almost every event her grandchildren had, often with her dog/side kick, Rhett in tow.
She endured the painful loss of both of her parents, her husband Larry Vair and her son Larry Vair Jr. She is survived by two sons Michael (Kasey) Vair and Sean (Lynn) Vair; a daughter-in-law, Annette Olvera, and five grandchildren: Christopher, Scarlette, Everett, Ava, Lilly; and two step grandsons, Tommy and Andrew Brown. She is also survived by her siblings Larry (Margaret) Brown, Sherian (Barry) New, Doug (Jamie) Brown; her aunt, Cheryl (Gordon) Six and nine nieces and nephews.
A funeral service will be held at Horan & McConaty, 3101 S. Wadsworth Blvd. Lakewood, CO 80227, on March 31, 2022 at 2pm, an onsite reception will follow the service.
