Luke Moise van der Vorst, age 19, died in Denver, Colorado on September 17, 2021.
Luke was born "Moise Pierre" on February 23, 2002 in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. Just before his second birthday, he came home to Denver, Colorado. He attended Holm Elementary School, Polaris at Ebert Elementary School, Morey Middle School, and graduated from Overland High School in May of 2020. In March of 2021 he moved to Boulder, Colorado. He worked as a barista extraordinaire at Starbucks in both Denver and Boulder. Luke was a natural athlete all his life and played soccer, excelled in basketball, and achieved a brown belt in karate. Most recently he had a passion for rock climbing, hiking and parkour. He was a math whiz. He had a natural charisma, charm and empathy, and had a special place in the hearts of many.
Luke is survived by his parents Dirk & Carolyn van der Vorst and siblings, Hannah, Jesse and Lydia van der Vorst, all living in Denver, Colorado.
A time for visitation and reflection will be held on Saturday, October 2 from 12:00 noon to 3:00pm at the Heartlight Center at 11150 East Dartmouth Avenue, Denver, Colorado 80014. This will be an informal opportunity for all to gather together to grieve, pay tribute to Luke and reflect on his life, and maybe stroll through the cremation gardens in which we hope to have Luke's name memorialized. We will have a butterfly release at 12:30 in the afternoon.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome for any and/or all of the following:
