Mark Layne

January 24, 1958 — October 3, 2022

Mark Hubert Layne, age 64, passed away at his home in Morrison, Colorado, on October 3, 2022. Mark was born on January 24, 1958 in Loup City, Nebraska, the second of 4 children born to Pastor James Eugene and Juliana (Harwerth) Layne. He graduated from Walnut Ridge Baptist Academy in Waterloo, IA with the class of 1976. Mark later attended the University of Nebraska at Kearney and graduated with a bachelors in Business with an emphasis in Computer Science. Following graduation, he worked for several companies all in the Computer Science field. He moved to Littleton, Colorado and began his career in computer science. For the past 20+ years, Mark worked as a Senior Computer Support Specialist for Lockheed Martin.

Mark accepted Jesus as his savior at Covenant Heights Bible Camp near Estes Park and was baptized at Fort Kearney Lake in Nebraska. Mark was a clever child with an insatiable need to figure things out - he’d often take things apart just to figure out how to put them back together. As a child, his kind and gentle disposition was drawn to animals and those animals loved him right back. While living in rural Kansas, Mark was involved in 4-H and raised Grand Champion pigs and cows. In high school, Mark was involved in sports and enjoyed playing his tuba and trumpet in the marching band. As a young student, he excelled in history and the sciences. Mark loved growing up in rural NE, CO, KS and IA.

As a young man and into adulthood, his hobbies blossomed into many outdoor adventures including boating and tubing, camping and hunting. He loved anything old. He loved collecting antique toys and trains. He loved rocketry and enjoyed shooting them off for young and old. His childhood hobby of taking things apart to see how they worked transitioned into his most favorite hobby of getting his Grandfather’s tractors up and running. He’d enter them into local tractor events and pulls. His family and friends enjoyed watching him enjoy his hobbies.

Mark was such an encourager and touched many lives with his cheerful heart and positive outlook on life. Family was very important to Mark and he always made it a priority to be there for special times and events. Mark was a loving son, brother, uncle, great uncle and loyal friend to all who knew him.

Mark is survived by his parents Gene and Julie Layne of Holdrege, NE, brother Daryl Layne and wife Yvetta of Centennial, CO, sister Denise Raymond and husband Steve of Sidney, NE, sister Susan Erickson and husband Don of Holdrege, NE, nephew James Layne of Denver, CO, nephew Paul Raymond and wife Abby of Gorham, ME, nephew Andrew Layne of Birmingham, AL, niece Gwen Graham and husband Nash of Holdrege, NE, great niece Ella Rose Graham and many other relatives and dear friends.

Mark was preceded in death by his grandparents, Hubert and Gwendolyn Harwerth and James and Alverda Layne.
