Nancy Mckay

Ms. Nancy A. McKay, 64, of Thornton, CO was a well-respected registered nurse, beloved sister, aunt and friend to many.  She passed away July 26, 2020.

Nancy was born in Rochester, MN.  A few years later the family moved to Fort Lauderdale, FL where she grew up and attended public schools before graduating from Northeast High School.  Nancy was drawn to the medical field, her dad was a physician and mom a nurse, and she was graduated from Vanderbilt University with a bachelor’s degree from the School of Nursing. Upon graduation she worked for the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Nashville.  After a number of years, Nancy’s love of the West, which she developed from the many family summer trips, spurred her to take a job with the Children’s Hospital Colorado in 1994.  She worked in various capacities at the Hospital and spent the last dozen years with the anesthesiology research side of the Hospital.

Nancy is preceded in death by her mom and dad, both long-time residents of Fort Lauderdale.  She is survived by her brothers and their families, Gary McKay (wife Patricia McKay) of Fort Lauderdale and Keith McKay (wife Pamela McKay) of Atlanta.  Always quick with a smile and conversation, Nancy loved being an aunt to her four nephews- Robert (wife Kazumi), John (wife Lauren), Matthew and Steven, as well as a great aunt (Yuki McKay).

Nancy loved to travel, especially in the Southwest where she could explore unusual places to take pictures of wildlife, scenic vistas, sunsets and family when around.  In addition to her love of photography, Nancy was a collector of southwest art and jewelry.

Nancy's life will be celebrated on Friday, August 7th at 11:00am during a Memorial Service in Thornton Colorado. This will be held at the Horan & McConaty Family Chapel at 9998 Grant Street, Thornton, CO 80229.
