Rick Ricketts passed away peacefully on October 7, 2018, while being attended to at Lighthouse Assisted Living due to heart issues, a staph blood infection and severe back pain. Rick was born on May 12, 1931 in Aledo, IL. He was the third son of the late Leo and Marie (Culver) Ricketts. Rick married Adelle Koslowske in 1952 and together they shared 64 years of marriage and four children, Steve, Mark, Mary and Katy. Adelle passed away in 2016.
Rick enlisted in the Air Force in January, 1952. After graduation from Intelligence School, Lowry AFB, Denver, Co, he was stationed for six months at MacDill AFB, Tampa, FL, before his overseas assignment to Brady Air Base in Japan. He returned from Japan in June 1954, was then stationed at Stewart AFB in Newburgh, NY for a brief time, and then returned to Denver at Lowry AFB. In 1956 they moved to Urbana, IL, where Rick completed his engineering degree at the University of Illinois.
After returning to Denver in 1959, Rick began work as a Mechanical Engineer at Natkin & Co. where he worked for 33 years. In 1987 they relocated to Anaheim Hills, CA with Natkin & Co. After 7 years there, they returned to their home in Lakewood. He absolutely loved his job and retired at the age of 65.
Rick was very active at the churches he attended and was always there to help, especially with anything HVAC related! He loved traveling to Hawaii with Adelle. They also loved road trips to visit family and friends throughout the US. Rick and Adelle also enjoyed the game of golf, going to Rockies games and watching the Broncos play.
He was very active in local politics, enjoyed his time at the Clement Senior Recreation Center and began learning the game of Bridge. He also loved his Saturday mornings at the American Legion in Lakewood. He had many friendships develop from all of these activities and we've been hearing how much everyone loved Rick! He had a big heart and was always eager to help anyone in need.
He is survived by son Mark, daughters Mary (Joe Vella) and Katy (Chuck Hakala), and grandchildren Alice and George Hakala. He is preceded in death by his wife, Adelle, his son Steve, his parents Leo and Marie, and his brothers Robert and Emery.
A Funeral Service for Rick will be held on Thursday, October 18, 2018 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Luke's Lutheran Church, 13119 W 20th Ave, Golden, CO 80401.
In Lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either Salvation Army or the Lutheran Hour Ministries.
