Robert Newman Iii

February 4, 1943 — November 5, 2021

Beloved father, sibling, & friend Robert James Newman III (Jim) passed away on Friday November 5, 2021 at the Rehabilitation Center at Sandalwood in Wheat Ridge, Colorado, surrounded by loved ones. He was 78 years old. The way Jim handled the challenges of Parkinson’s disease was an inspiration for all of us. He led his life with resilience, dignity, appreciation and concern for others, and a wonderful sense of humor.
Born on February 4, 1943, in NYC, Jim was the son of the late Renata Ingraham and Robert Allen Newman.  After he graduated from the University of Virginia he married, the love of his life, Nancy Cant. They returned to UVA, where Jim received his MBA from the Darden School. He began his business career at the Ford Motor Corporation in Dearborn, Michigan.  In 1970, he went to NYC to work for Eastdil Realty, Inc., a wholly owned subsidiary of Eastman Dillon, specializing in real estate investment banking. In 1979, Jim left there to found American and Overseas Property Co. He also served on the Board of Directors of the Kinney Oil Co. in Colorado from 1991 until his death.
Having lived almost their entire life on the east coast, in 1999 Jim and his wife moved to Colorado, initially to Golden before settling in Evergreen, where they never tired of the mountain views. They embraced their new life there, making new friends and pursued new interests. Jim did yoga, studied Japanese and became passionate about Taekwondo.
Jim’s beloved wife Nancy predeceased him in 2006. He is survived by his son James C. Newman, his daughter- in- law, Sierra and his grandson, James, as well as his two siblings: Dana I, Newman and Barbara N. Trainer, his brother-in-law, John M. Trainer, his niece, Wendy I. Trainer, and his nephew, James T. Trainer. His family and his friends were what were most important to Jim. He will be missed by so many and never forgotten.
The family would like to thank the wonderful caregivers at Sandalwood as well as the hospice staff from Compassus of Denver. Donations in Jim’s memory may be made to The Michael J. Fox Foundation (www.michaeljfox.org/donation)
