Steve Haggerty (Hags), age 68, passed away on June 28th, 2021. Born May 12th, 1953, in Denver, Colorado. Preceded in death by parents Joseph and Annette (Skippy) Haggerty. Growing up in the Littleton area, Steve quickly found a love for athletics where he began a remarkably successful football career at Arapahoe High School. He was admired by many for his sheer speed and agility on the field. His football career continued into college where he played at the University of Colorado Boulder and the University of Nevada Las Vegas. After college, his childhood dream came true when Steve was drafted to play for the Denver Broncos where he played in one game in 1975.
After a career ending injury, he continued his love of the sport by coaching. For years he coached both football and golf. He progressed to an assistant and golf pro at several golf clubs in the Denver area. Steve shared his love of golf with his children, family, and friends. He was always willing to give anyone pointers on their swing. He was nearly always in attendance at his children’s baseball and football games, gymnastics and swim meets, and cheerleading competitions. The Haggerty family’s love for sports was passed on and will continue for generations.
For many years, Steve sold “groceries” for Sysco food distributors. At Sysco he earned the award of Marketing Associate of the year multiple times. There he worked hard, gained lasting friendships, and played even more golf. Steve retired from Sysco due to medical reasons in 2009.
In November of 2012, Steve received a double lung transplant. This life saving procedure gave him a second lease on life. During the next eight and a half years he made a conscious effort to live each day to the fullest by traveling, playing golf, and spending valuable time with family and friends. In June of 2021, after many weeks of complications with COVID-19, Steve passed away at the University of Colorado Hospital.
Steve is survived by his partner Judith Singleton, son Henry Haggerty, son Hunter Haggerty (Erika), daughter Josephine Haggerty and two grandsons Huxton & Hayes.
A Memorial Mass honoring Steve's life will be held on Friday, July 9, 2021, at 10:00 AM at Most Precious Blood Catholic Church: 3959 E Iliff Ave, Denver, CO 80210. Reception to follow.
