Thomas Richardson

September 4, 1945 — December 17, 2018

Tom Richardson, of Littleton, Colorado and Naples, Florida, died December 17, 2018 at the age of 73.

Tom, the youngest of four children, was born September 4, 1945 in Flint, Michigan, to Martha Boughton and Gerald Richardson. As a boy, Tom picked cherries in Northern Michigan, and tomatoes in Indiana. At Bentley High School in Flint, Tom starred (according to Tom himself, and at least some old newspaper clippings) as a pitcher on the baseball team and, more importantly, met his future wife Jan, to whom he was married for over 54 years. Tom went on to star academically at Michigan State University, and then Harvard Law School.

In 1970, Tom and Jan moved to Colorado, where Tom began his career with Denver's largest and best law firm, Holme Roberts & Owen. He practiced at HRO for 37 years, becoming a Senior Partner, mentoring many young lawyers, and gaining many grateful colleagues, friends, and clients. After retiring from HRO, Tom served as general counsel for Cimarex Energy Company.

Although Tom had a long, distinguished career as an attorney, the most important thing in his life was his family. In a toast during a family dinner celebrating his and Jan's 50th wedding anniversary, Tom noted that all of his life's proudest accomplishments were in the room with him. After retirement, Tom enjoyed spending time with Jan and their family in Colorado, Florida, Las Vegas and Chicago; watching Detroit Tigers and Michigan State games; and playing video poker (not approved by Jan).

Tom is survived by, and will forever be remembered by, his wife Jan, daughter Kelly (Warren) Berg, sons Tom (Gabi) and David (Celia), grandchildren Noelle, Ryan and Emilie, sister Bev (Dave) Anthony, and sister-in-law Janet Richardson. Tom was preceded in death by his mother Martha Louise Boughton, father Gerald H. Richardson, sister Marilyn, and brother Gerald.

Tom will be fondly remembered for his sense of humor, kindness, intelligence and generosity. He will be greatly missed. We can only hope that, wherever he may be, there is an endless supply of Flint coney islands, and easy access to Tigers games.

Tom's family extends its gratitude to the nurses, staff and doctors at Sky Ridge and Aurora Medical Centers, and everyone at Berkley Hospice Care.

A private service is planned with a celebration of life to follow in the spring. Donations to Meals on Wheels/Volunteers of America.
